According to the 2026 Open Doors World Watchlist, more than 388 million Christians worldwide face very high or extreme levels of persecution. In Asia, where the majority of our beneficiaries come from, 2 out of every 5 Christians are persecuted. Such persecution may be driven by state authorities, extremist groups, societal pressures, or a combination of these forces.
In some countries, like Syria, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan, believers face such extreme persecution that their faith can cost them everything, including their very lives. They are often forced to flee in search of safe refuge.
Frequently isolated and marginalised, it can be almost impossible to practice their faith as part of a community, particularly for converts from Islam in Islamic countries. Access to fellowship, discipleship and bible teaching is basic at best, and often non-existent. Even owning a bible can cost them their lives.
The International Christian Consulate (ICC) is committed to walking alongside them, providing connection, advocacy, discipleship, humanitarian assistance and genuine Christian community. We support Christians still facing persecution in countries where they are living, as well as those who have been forced to flee because of their faith.

The Plight of Middle Eastern & Central Asian Christians
Many Christians in the Middle East and Central Asia have faced relentless faith-based persecution. This includes those from historical Christian communities such as the Assyrian and Orthodox churches, as well as those who have converted to Christianity from Islam.
In Muslim-majority countries, particularly those with Islamic regimes, Muslim-background believers face particular danger due to their apostasy from Islam. The penalty for apostasy is often death. Many have no choice but to flee. Others try to survive in hiding, determined to hold fast to their faith despite isolation and significant danger.
Countless believers have fled for their lives in search of safe refuge in Europe, often losing everything and arriving with little more than their faith and a hope for a safer future.
Even after reaching Europe they face significant challenges: adapting to a new culture, navigating asylum and other bureacratic processes, securing basic necessities, and even continued persecution inside refugee camps.
These couragous people embody steadfast faith in Christ, even under intense persecution, and their journey calls for compassionate support, protection, and opportunities to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

Grounded in biblical values and guided by Christian love, ICC offers a holistic response that addresses both urgent humanitarian needs and long-term spiritual and social restoration.

Our Work and Mission
ICC’s work is centred on bible-based discipleship, Christian community, and restoration of lives.
We provide humanitarian assistance to those in need, including food, clothing, and essential relief items. Where possible, we facilitate access to medical care and psychosocial support.
ICC also supports integration efforts, helping those who have sought refuge in Greece to rebuild their lives with dignity, stability, and purpose in their new communities. Where needed, ICC can additionally provide safe-house accommodation in Athens, for those facing destitution or further persecution inside refugee camps.
At the heart of ICC’s mission is discipleship and Christian growth. We create safe and nurturing spaces for Bible study, discipleship, prayer, and fellowship places where faith can be strengthened, wounds can heal, and hope can be renewed. Through trusted faith-based networks, ICC supports believers both in areas of persecution and in exile, standing with them as brothers and sisters in Christ.
Partnerships and Advocacy
ICC provides a range of support and receives referrals from NGOs, humanitarian organisations, and Middle Eastern Christian communities. We aim to work collaboratively with UNHCR and European authorities to address protection risks, security concerns, and gaps in assistance, advocating for fair, compassionate, and dignified treatment of Christian refugees.
ICC also partners with organisations operating in places of active persecution, co-ordinating with safe-house protection and rescue operations from time to time, including resettlement of Afghan Christians.
